The other day, Karen and I were standing around in fiction. Specifically, I was showing her a copy of "The Club Dumas" by Arturo Perez-Reverte. It is one of my favorite books, and I was just starting a reread. We had pulled a copy down, when we noticed a nasty little German cockaroach running through the stacks. Specifically, it was headed right towards a sandal-clad patron. Srsly, the bitch should have heard the commotion we were making...sort of little shrieks and grunts. This bitch didn't move, and the roach continued on it's path, which would have crossed her foot. Karen, assuming the classic Captain Save-a-ho position, slings one arm towards the woman and soccor kicks this roach across the aisle. (I'd like to point out that this patron, who Karen has basically put her arm against, still does not acknowledge anything is amiss...dummy)
Of course, the roach simply shakes himself off and runs off to tell his thousand brothers and sisters what Karen has done...which worries me. But...Karen was awesome. Inspired! Brave!
To commemorate this occasion, we presented her with the No. 1 Roach-Slayer award.
